Hi All, just thought I'd let you all know that Ares Games has done another print run of war of the ring (second edition) and it's hitting retailers now. (Has been with the distributors for a week or two). I'd been looking for this for ages, and didn't want to pay the high second hand prices. Hope this helps someone out.
Jan 21, 2019. Ares says second edition will be reprinted in Feb 2019, so I'm guessing there's very little chance of a third edition coming out in the next few years. The game seems polished enough (in terms of errata, etc.), and there's not much calling to add new stuff to the base game or bundle the existing expansions into it. The main difference is that the revised core set has three copies of all the player cards. Another difference is that the revised core includes a few additional cards that let you string the three quests together as part of a campaign (with elements that carry over from quest to quest). Currently there are five expansions, these do things like add new characters, or new cards, and some make rule additions – Although none are essential to play. Final Thoughts. Ultimately War of the Ring is a two player strategic war game driven by action dice and event cards, which despite the asymmetrical nature, is extremely well balanced.
Replayability/Value: With the improved create-a-hero system, more persistent armies in the War of the Ring Mode, new units for existing races, and the new Angmar faction, this expansion gives the original game even more longevity. The single-player campaign, though a challenge, is largely forgettable.

War of the ring expansions I’ll get if they ever come back in stock because the Tolkien verse is my all time favorite story/setting/world ever and who doesn’t want to play as ents and balrogs. But games like splendor, azul, Sagrada, 7 wonders, the western kingdom games…I doubt I’ll get those games expansions.

With the standard edition you only have access to the base game (A Realm Reborn) and the first expansion, Heavensward. You don't have the 2nd, 3rd or 4th expansions and all the content (main story, raids, side stories, higher level cap, new areas, jobs etc. etc.) that come with them. In other words you only have 40% of the game right now.
The last one is an expansion to War of the Ring. If you want to buy it only for the third game, I'd say no to your question, since you allready own both 2nd edition expansions. The anniversary edition adds significant time to set up and take down due to extra care taken with minis. Furthermore, telling apart units, specifically leaders vs elites on the free people team is really difficult. In fact I have gotten into trouble by thinking an army was stronger than it looks by making that mistake.
